Chapter 111: Evan's Story (1)
I was dragged by Silue into one of the two rooms prepared for us by Evan, and Silue still looked puffed up with anger. Looking at her expression now, I couldn't associate this beautiful girl with a childish personality with the profession of a ruthless assassin no matter what. Perhaps just as Evan had evaluated: Silue's nature was simple and kind-hearted, so even if she was smarter than Evan and surpassed him in learning the skills of an assassin, Silue could never become an excellent assassin because cold-bloodedness and ruthlessness were essential qualities for an assassin. Evan said that Silue's emotions were too rich, making her unsuitable to be an assassin, at most just a woman who had mastered the skills of an assassin.
When Evan said that, I thought it was very ridiculous. Is Evan really a cold-blooded person? People always talk about others with their mouths, but rarely reflect on themselves.
"My brother always bullies me, humph, Alik, I'll tell you the story of my brother, it's really interesting." Then, Xilu, who was sulking with her brother, told me the story of Evan:
Evanson was born into a noble family in the Serl Empire, Evans is the second son of the family, but his father did not love him as much as his younger sister. At the age of seven, he was sent to study assassination under the most famous assassin in the empire, so that when his older brother inherited the title, Evans could help his brother establish merit. In the intense political struggle, assassination is undoubtedly an effective means.
Evan studied assassination techniques under the Assassin's Guild for ten years, then was sent by the organization as a devout follower to the Vatican headquarters to study pastoral skills. Of course, the organization obviously didn't want him to really become a pastor, but rather to infiltrate the Vatican as a spy to gather some intelligence.
Evan met Nia there, and our story begins from here...
Evan was standing in front of the grand cathedral of the Holy See, the headquarters of the Church, and despite being from the Imperial City, he was still stunned by the magnificent church and the solemn atmosphere. The high stone arches were about five or six meters high, with exquisite carvings on top, and two stone angel statues tightly attached to the door pillars, vividly spreading their wings as if flying, with a peaceful and joyful expression. The towering spire of the cathedral pointed straight up into the sky, with a huge cross at its tip. Standing in front of the church, one couldn't help but feel insignificant.
Under the push of the crowd, Evan walked into the church. The space in the church seemed very large, with murals painted on all four walls and even on the vaulted ceiling. Countless colored glasses were embedded around it, and the light was sufficient. A ray of sunlight shot through a window above the vaulted ceiling and shone directly on the statue of the Lord of Light on the altar, making the statue look exceptionally sacred.
Nearly five hundred candidates who came with Evan were divided into three teams to take the divine test. Those who were selected would either be trained as a Holy Knight of the Vatican or as a full-time pastor, but all those who were selected were people who were devout and fanatical towards the Lord of Light, with strong wills and robust spirits. As for those who failed, they also had the opportunity to serve as low-ranking servants of the Vatican for pastors and holy knights.
Evan didn't expect to become a candidate for Holy Knight or Priest, as an atheist assassin, no one would have expected that, his original purpose was to be eliminated and then choose to stay as a servant to gather intelligence. So when everyone around him was nervous about taking the test, Evan was the only one who seemed carefree and relaxed, without any pressure, precisely because of this, plus Evan's originally handsome face, among the examinees he stood out from the crowd, different from the others.
Just as Evan was looking around, the person behind him gave him a push and said, "Hey, what are you looking at? It's your turn, go quickly, don't waste time."
Evan glanced back at the people behind him and shrugged indifferently before walking forward to take the test.
Five red-robed bishops sat in a row before him, their faces stern and solemn. One of them, an elderly man with a white beard, spoke up: "Are you Evin Tred?"
Ivan bowed respectfully and said: "Respectfully, Your Excellencies, I am Ivan, please instruct me."
The old man nodded and said: "So, let's start testing. Evan, tell me what you're thinking."
Evan thought for a moment and said, "I don't know what to say, let's talk about our Lord. God loves the world just like parents love their children, but people loving God is not necessarily sincere."
The old man asked with interest: "Oh? Why do you say that?"
Evan spoke freely, without any pressure, as he had originally planned to be eliminated: "People love God, pray to God, why? Most people are probably not loving God, they all have many unfulfilled wishes, so they pray for the power of a super-hot god to appear miracles, help them fulfill their own wishes. Those who have no children pray for birth, the poor pray for wealth and nobility, the wealthy and noble pray for longevity, the long-lived pray for immortality, the weak pray for protection, the strong pray for invincibility, those who have done evil pray for forgiveness, and then continue to do evil. They all regard prayer to God as a shortcut to satisfy themselves. They say they love God, fear God, but what they love is just themselves. This is not true love, nor is it true reverence for God. Such people will not receive God's favor, nor are they worthy of serving the Lord of Light."
The old man nodded and said: "Then what is the true Lord of Love and Light, and what is true faith?"
Evan said, "God loves the world just like parents love their children. So we people should serve God as children serve their parents, with a sincere and ardent love for the Lord of light. Being fair, selfless, pure in heart, and genuine, this is true faith. Only such people will truly dare to fight for the Lord and dedicate their lives to the Lord of light." After finishing speaking, Evan also made a seemingly heartfelt standard pastor's gesture.
The old man nodded and said, "Your words are well spoken, it can be seen that your faith in the Lord is sincere. So, we can begin the divine test now. If your divinity compatibility exceeds 50%, you will have the qualifications to become a candidate for pastor and holy knight."
The old man beckoned to a middle-aged red-robed bishop on one side, shouting: "Nia, bring over the Pearl of Light for a divine test."
