“Sorcerer Supreme, there’s a-”
“You know what, just call me Chamber instead.” I shook my head and interrupted him, although Dior disrespected by it oher hand, he leased because he no longer had to call me Sorcerer Supreme which is 5 sylbles every now and then.
“Chamber. There’s an old mahere. His mana is strange.” Diorno said, pointing at a certain old man in a distan front of them, wearing nothing but a ragged brown robe with a few holes and patches.
The old man was holding a long wooden stick that he uses as a e.
“I know. His mana is te for a normal human.” I replied.
“He might be a human wizard. I’ve heard of them, people who discovered the mana ihem and mao find a way to harhem through plicated numbers. Even to this day, I have no idea how numbers help in using mana.”
“Wizards? You seem to know a lot about them.” My ears perked up at the mention of a term I’m quite familiar with.
Wizards are simir to Sorcerers in a magical way. The only differeweewo is that Sorcerers mostly engage in physical bat, with their spells heavily reted to it.
Wizards, oher hand are the exact opposite of Sorcerers.
If the tter specializes on physical bat magic, the former are more of versatility, Wizard’s spells are ranging from household magic that and sweep the floor ted attacks that targets in a distance.
While Sorcerers are strong in physical, wizards are very weak.
However they make it up by their abundance of spells and rge amounts of mana that their body handle despite being physically weak.
“Of course, the church had a share few enter with some of them, especially Merlin, the greatest wizard to have ever lived.” There was a hint of respe his eyes as Diorno introduced the legend.
“So, that old man is like Merlin?” I asked while pointing at the distant old man with a e walking towards us.
Due to the hood, we were uo see his facial features. But what gave away to his old age is the way he walks and the e he’s using as a support.
Instead of ht addressing the old man, we waited for him to approach us first before raising our questions.
“Good evening, gentlemen.” As soon as the old man approached us, he greeted us as he raised his head, letting a small light lit his face, finally showing us his face.
He was indeed old as we assumed, wrinkles covered his face, enough to narrate his age and experien life.
However, one gny magises tells me that this appearance is fake. Fed by a mere illusiohat deceive normal humans but not me.
Now that he got close and I finally got a closer look at his entire appearance, only then did I noticed that his e is fake. It doesn’t look like a magi’s e. It’s just a normal long wooden stick.
Instead, what caught my attention was the ring he was wearing on his left hand, a silver ring with a rge green stone embedded into it.
Just seeing it is enough for me to know that the ring is not normal, it tains some sort of magiside, a plicated o that.
“Good evening.” Diorno stepped forward and raised his hand forward, a handshake to the old man. It doesn’t seem like Diorno noticed the illusion c the old man’s face.
Looks like the illusion is a high-level one.
The old man smiled and took his hand, shaking it in the process.
As for me, I don’t like to prolong this discussion. I have a potential studeing inside his home, awaiting for me to take him in.
“Drop the illusion, wizard. You ’t deceive my eyes.” Not only Diorno was shocked but even the old man stared at me in surprise.
“This…” The old man bore a plicated face as his eyes wandered between me and the now cautious Diorno beside me before sighing.
“I didn’t know there was someone who perceive magic here. My apologies.” Then finally, the old man dropped his illusion, allow us to have a glimpse of his true appearance.
He wasn’t old, which I wasn’t expeg sidering most humans who use magic are supposed to be old people.
Not young like a middle-aged man.
“What’s your his time, it was my turn to ask as Diorno turned silent, probably scolding himself to not being able to see through something so obvious. At least to me.
“…Balthazar Bke.” Sighing, the middle-aged man now known as Balthazar, introduced himself.
“Balthazar Bke. Where have I heard that name before?” I squinted my eyes, trying to recall ah the same name.
“It’s you! Merlin’s disciple!” It was Diorno who spoke with wide eyes, surprising even me.
‘Merlin have a disciple?’ I asked to myself. Surprised by the revetion.
Of course I know about Merlioo was a Sorcerer ba my world, but I haven’t heard of him having a disciple.
Is it because it’s a different universe so their stories are also different?
Maybe that’s why.
I’ve ruly uood the secrets of the multiverse so I’m not sure. Maybe I’m right or maybe not.
“Balthazar. What are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’re still busy looking for Merlin’s aor?” Diorno asked with a weary smile. As if he was the one who was doing it.
“Well, what I say? Every year or so, I hear about extraordinary children only to fell short when I meet them myself.” Balthazar sighed in exhaustion, talking to Diorno like old friends.
“You guys know each other?” I asked, not expeg this.
“Well, ly.” Diorno then proceeded to expin.
It turns out, when Diorno was a child, training under an experienced exorcist, he showed an incredible talent, which was sniffed by Balthazar, thinking that Diorno was the child who will i Merlin’s legacy.
Well, when they met and Balthazar assessed Diorno, it turns out he wasn't the one he was looking for and so, that’s the st time they saw each other.
Only when Direw up, he heard stories of Balthazar and his quest of finding the successor of his master.
“So, is that why you’re here now? To look for your master’s successor?” I inquired to which Balthazar nodded his head.
“Yes. I heard about an explosion here and sino one aside from Supernatural beings cause it, I thought either it is reted to the child I’m looking for or just someone causing chaos. If it’s the tter then I’ll just help the kingdom that my master used to serve.” Balthazar shrugged his shoulders and replied.
“I’m fused. Why are you looking for Merlin’s successor? Is Merlin dead or what?” My fused question was met with their stares at me as if they’re telling me ‘Are you dumb?’.
“….You guys just tell me, right? Instead of staring at me like that.” Their stares were met with my monotonous tone.
“My master is dead. Betrayed by one of his students, who also killed my lover. At the same time, this said student is a dear friend of mine.” Sorrow fshed on Balthazar’s face as he looked down on the ground with a solemn tone as he expined.
“I see….I’m sorry for opening up an old wound.” Guilt immeidiately appeared on my face as I apologized sincerely.
No wohey were looking at me like that.
“It’s okay. It’s all in the past. My only focus right now is to finish my master’s st mission for me and I would finally be able to rest and join my beloved.” He said with a warm smile, as if death is merely a resting pce for someone like him.
Well, sidering how long Balthazar has lived. I think it’s almost a thousand years if my memory serves me right.
That’s right, I finally remembered where I st heard Balthazar’s name.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
A film I remember watg during my high school days. It was during the time when magid such are all-time famous for nerds like me.
No wonder Balthazar looks familiar. That’s Nichos Cage right there, except with a thick beard and very long hair. I almost thought he’s Merlin himself.
‘He’s hundreds of years away from finding the person he’s looking for.’ I felt pity for Balthazar. The guy would live by himself for at least a few more hundred years before finding Merlin’s successor aing with his lover.
Unless I hasten it up.
Balthazar and his lover whom I fot the name would be a good addition to my Sorcerer Society.
Not to mention, their method of harnessing mana. Through the ring they’re wearing, they could manipute their surroundings, almost he level of reality manipution, albeit with rge limitations.
For example, they ’t use their magic to heal themselves, their magic relies heavily on having knowledge about physid sce, they ’t do feats such killing someone directly, or resurreg someone.
Heck they ’t eveheir magic to teleport or at least, fly.
Don’t eveion that they heir magigs to perform magic.
Though that doesn’t make them any weaker. Their magic spells are very versatile, especially the mirror spell that Balthazar used where they enter some sort of Mirror Dimension replica, though it ’t fully trap someone like the Mirror Dimension where you he Sling Ring to escape.
Aside from that, the only thing that caught my attention to their kind is their capabilities to create life through inanimate objects.
Balthazar create a rge griffin through metal, his rival create a bunch of wolves that came out of a paper and then there’s the ese guy who unleash a fiery dragon.
Though their heavy reliance makes up too much of these advantages.
‘Maybe…I use their rings as a substitute for my Sling Rings. I ent them so magigs use portals like Sling Rings.’ Thinking about this, I couldn’t help but yell to myself about how smart I am.
Smiling to myself, I shifted my attention to Balthazar who was busy catg up with Diorno.
“Say, Balthazar. I have a great offer to you.” I interrupted them.
“Offer?” Balthazar fusedly asked.
***
[Balthazar PoV]
“You wao join your Sorcerer Society and bee a Master?” I repeated the offer, disbelief evident in my tone.
Who wouldn’t be? This man, who I met just now, offered me a very high position.
“Yes.”
“…What’s it to you then?” Caution appeared on my face, my master is wise enough to teach me that there is no such thing as free lun this world.
Even if someone helped you without asking for an exge, you’ll find yourself ied to them in no time.
“I just wish to know more about yic system and that ring of yours. In exge, I teay magic spells and help your find your master’s successor.” I hear him say.
I don’t even know this kid’s name.
He’s like what? Fifteen years old?
“…Prove it.” I said, no way I’m falling for a child’s trick. I’m thousand year older than this kid, for Merlin’s beard!
“Prove it?” The kid fell into ption before replying.
His words however, made me freeze.
“How about a spar. If I defeat you, you agree to my offers and if you defeat me. I’ll help you kill Man Le Fay ae you with your lover, Veronica.” He said those words with the utmost fiden his tone.
I have so many questions running in my mind, questions I want to force the answer out from the kid, however I only mao ask oe it all.
“How did you know that name?”
