The Magician's Journey
The townspeople retreated to the square one after another, and the first to be breached were the two entrances of the town in the south and north. Then Uncle Sam and Toronto also retreated back, and more and more people gathered on the square. The mayor was organizing those who still had fighting power to take up their weapons and defend the last line of defense. The wounded were concentrated in the center for treatment. Although the scene was a bit chaotic, everyone knew what they should do.
At this time, Uncle Sam suddenly found that his daughter and wife had not retreated, anxiously searching for them in the crowd, but to no avail. Uncle Sam was anxious, picked up his weapon and wanted to rush out to find his family.
I grabbed him and said, "Uncle Sam, don't worry, wait for me to eliminate the zombies gathered here, then I'll go with you. The top priority now is to hold this place down, otherwise the town will be finished. Aika and the others won't have any problems, don't worry."
Uncle Sam hesitated for a moment, let out a loud sigh and sat down on the ground dejectedly. He probably knew that if they couldn't find Aika and her mother now, their chances of survival were extremely slim.
I couldn't afford to comfort Uncle Sam anymore, the zombie horde was gradually closing in on the town square. Many of the townspeople who had died earlier were now zombies attacking us, and those who saw familiar faces that had turned into terrifying zombies felt extremely frightened. Many of them were so scared that their legs went soft and they dropped their weapons to the ground.
The town mayor, though frightened, still managed to rally everyone with a trembling voice: "Don't be afraid, the people in front of you are no longer your familiar family and friends, nor are they the acquaintances you've been living with every day. They're already dead, and what's attacking you now is a group of bloodthirsty zombies. Everyone, cheer up and defend this place! If you don't want to become like them, pick up your weapons and fight!"
The mayor's words had some effect, and many of the townspeople suppressed their fear and grief, picking up their weapons again.
The zombies soon launched an attack and the battle resumed.
I pray to the moon god in the language of the spirits:
Noble Moon Goddess, please display your mercy, use the energy of your moonlight to heal the wounds of this world, spread your love over this land, and let the light of life dispel the threat of death. Noble Moon Goddess, please show your divine power, with my devout heart towards life, I pray for a miracle of life, whether or not one believes in you, whether or not one converts to you, please let all lives here witness your divine sign, and let all lives here bask in your glory.
A silver-white light enveloped the town, and a sky full of glittering rain descended from the heavens. This was the Wood-type magic unique to the Spirit Clan: "Rain of Life". Originally, I shouldn't have been able to cast such large-scale Spirit Clan magic, but after Freya's death, during those days when I was heartbroken and guarding her grave, I somehow faintly felt the power of the Moon God that only the Spirit Clan could sense. Later on, I discovered that I could barely use the Wood-type healing magic that only the Spirit Clan could use. I don't know what the reason is, perhaps it's because when a person is at their most spiritually vulnerable, they are paradoxically closest to the divine.
The magical effect of "Rain of Life" enveloped the entire town, and the wounds of the injured person in the center of the square were healing at a speed visible to the naked eye. On the contrary, the zombies that gathered together seemed to be burned by flames under the cover of "Healing Rain", emitting white smoke from their bodies, and rapidly decaying like melting ice and snow, disappearing, leaving only a skeleton behind.
The villagers let out a huge cheer and Uncle Sam stared at me in surprise, saying: "So... so you're actually a magician!"
I smiled, just about to speak, when I suddenly felt the ground shaking, from afar and getting closer, like thunder approaching, the townspeople didn't know what was happening, looking at each other in alarm.
Suddenly, a sharp-eyed villager pointed to the road at the village entrance and shouted loudly: "Look! It's the imperial cavalry! Our reinforcements have arrived! Look, the pastor of the church is also inside!" At once, everyone cheered again.
Taking advantage of the commotion, I pulled Uncle Sam and said: "Let's go take a look at your cellar. Maybe Aika and the others didn't have time to evacuate and are hiding there."
We arrived at Sam's door, just as Aika and her mother were struggling to carry the wounded mercenary out. Aika caught sight of her father and hastily set down the stretcher, embracing him excitedly. Sam's wife also came over and they hugged each other tightly, a family of three holding each other in tears of joy.
Sam kissed his daughter and wife forcefully on the face, muttering: "Where have you been? I didn't see you in the square and it got me all anxious. Dear, why weren't you with everyone else? I almost thought I'd lost you forever."
Aika hugged her father excitedly and said, "Dad, Mom and I took care of Ank who was injured. At that time, the zombies had already invaded the town, we couldn't move in time, fortunately, Alick asked us to reinforce the basement beforehand, so we retreated here and escaped."
Sam heard his daughter's words, let go of his daughter and wife, turned around and bowed solemnly to me standing aside, saying: "Mr. Alex, thank you, if it wasn't for your help, I would have lost them."
I hastily supported Sam and smiled: "Don't say that, I haven't thanked you for your care these days. I'm leaving now, everything here is up to you."
Aika asked in surprise: "Alyric, are you leaving now? Why?"
I smiled and said: "Yes, my identity as a magician has been exposed to everyone. Staying here will only add trouble for everyone. Besides, I have many things to do, and I'll come back to see you all later."
"Ai Ka exclaimed in surprise: "So you're a magician! The light rain just now was your doing, how amazing!"
I nodded and took out a bag of gold coins from my bosom to hand over to Aika: "I'm leaving, this is what I want to give you, Aika sister, keep it as your dowry!"
"Ai Ka's face turned red as she shook her head and said: 'I don't want to!'"
I forcibly stuffed the pouch of money into her bosom, then summoned "Purple Flame", and finally bid farewell to Sam's family: "Farewell, Uncle Sam, farewell Aika, I'll come visit you when I have a chance."
After finishing speaking, I patted "Zi Yan"'s neck, and "Zi Yan" let out a long neigh, carrying me swiftly towards the outside of the town.
