Volume 3 Journey Chapter 78 Embrace
I sent Terry to see Ivan's siblings off when the ship docked. I didn't want nosy Ivan to disturb my joy of meeting Sullena. I got off the ship alone and headed towards the palace.
How familiar the streets are, how familiar the atmosphere is. The city is bustling with people coming and going, just like when I left. After these days of rest, I can no longer find any traces of the bloody night in the capital. Everything seems as if nothing had happened. Under Sulina's rule, the Kingdom of Krelan presents a thriving scene, and I have to admit that she has an unparalleled talent for governing the country.
As I walked and thought, I inadvertently arrived at the outer wall of the palace. Since I wanted to give her a surprise, I might as well not report directly and go in. Thinking of this, I silently recited the incantation of wind magic, a gust of clear wind lifted me up, and I floated like a leaf, the gentle breeze surrounding me, I lightly flew over the palace walls.
Every blade of grass and every tree before my eyes makes me feel extremely familiar. Although the time spent here is not long, many unforgettable things have happened after all. The place where I fell was in the garden of the palace, and I walked along the winding path in the garden to Sulina's bedroom.
I didn't meet anyone on the way, I know Sulina has a habit of thinking alone in this garden, and many plans and strategies are planned here. Therefore, at this time, there is usually no one else in the garden.
And before long, Sulina should be walking slowly along this road, she comes every day at this time, no matter how busy.
As expected, footsteps came from the front. I quickly hid myself in the woods by the side of the road and waited for Sulina to pass by, then suddenly appeared in front of her.
The footsteps were getting closer and I could already hear Sullina's voice.
"Your Majesty, have you thought this through?" a hoary voice came over. This voice I remembered, it was the old general who had led the troops to support Suriya on the night of the Blood Moon in the capital, whom Suriya called Uncle Rode.
"Ah, I've decided, Uncle Rod." Sulina's voice was a little hoarse, had she been tired lately?
"What about Prince Nalak? How will you account to him?" Rod asked. At the mention of me, I, who was ready to jump out, stopped and continued to listen.
"It's okay, he also knows that we shouldn't be together in the first place. I'll explain it to him clearly." Suliina said hesitantly, as if she had made up her mind about something.
Lord Rod said, "Actually, with Her Majesty the Queen's current strength, even if we don't agree to their marriage proposal, we have the power to fight them. Why must we compromise? Moreover, Prince Arik is a magician and his strength should not be underestimated...the gains and losses in this..."
"Uncle Rod, you don't have to persuade me. The Haishi tribe is the most powerful and influential in the kingdom. If I don't agree to their demands, it will lead to civil war. I've just ascended to the throne, and my top priority now is stability. Neither the country nor its people can afford the devastation of a civil war. I don't know how the Haishi tribe found out that I'm actually not married to Alik in reality, but regardless, we can't afford to stir up controversy right now. Besides, they're not planning to usurp my power; they just want to solidify our relationship through marriage. The son of the Haishi chieftain is a weak-willed person. Even if he became my husband, he would only be a puppet." Sulina said.
Although I actually knew long ago that Sulina's heart needed more than love from me, I never thought that after she had my child, she would make such a decision. I stood there in a daze, unsure of what to do with myself for the time being.
Sulina and Rod walked away, their footsteps gradually disappearing. I came out of my reverie and turned to head in the direction of Sulina's bedroom. No matter what, I still wanted to go see my child. Although he wouldn't carry my surname and wouldn't belong to me in the future, after all, he was my flesh and blood.
I stealthily bypassed the guards of the palace and entered inside, several maids fell into a deep sleep under my sleeping magic. I saw that there was a cradle in the house, a chubby little boy was playing alone with great enthusiasm. I walked over quietly, looking at this child. The little boy was making "oh~oh~" sounds all by himself, and when he seemed to have seen me, his eyes turned towards me, letting out a giggling sound.
He is my son, and my heart tightens. What a beautiful little angel, his smile almost melts me. The little guy smiled and then said "oh~oh~" to me, as if he was greeting me. I finally couldn't help but stretch out my hand and hold him in my arms, kissing his face, the thick milk fragrance, what a wonderful feeling.
The little guy in my arms didn't cry or make a fuss, he just calmly chatted with me in his own language. I reached out and touched his cheek, thinking to myself, what will he be like when he grows up? Will he inherit his mother's throne in the future? Will he be a good king?
"He looks just like you, dear." Sulina's voice sounded from behind me.
I turned around and smiled at her, saying: "You've lost weight. It's not easy being alone, but the child will rely on you from now on. I hope he becomes a wise king in the future."
Sulina smiled and nodded. I handed the child over to her, Sulina carefully took it over, hugged the child and kissed him, then gently put it back in the cradle.
Surina stood up, turned around and hugged me tightly, her face pressed against my chest, whispering: "Alik, you've finally come to see us, I miss you so much."
I patted her back gently and said, "I know, I know."
The two of us just stood there, hugging each other like that. At this moment, the little resentment in my heart had long since dissipated. I knew that what I felt for Sulina now was more pity. A woman shouldering such a heavy burden, even sacrificing herself - what could I say? Moreover, we both knew from the start that we couldn't be together in the end; it's just that both of us tacitly ignored this fact.
But now, the day has finally come, and both I and Sulina can only face it. At this moment, we are like people warming each other in a cold night. When dawn breaks, we will go our separate ways and become strangers to each other.
I sniffed the fragrance of Sulina's hair by her ear and asked softly, "Sulina, don't they mind that you have a child? Anyway, let's make our child grow up healthy and don't let him be bullied, okay?"
