Chapter 51: Revenge

Volume 3 Journey Chapter 51 Revenge

The lord's manor in Lantai City, two fully armed guards standing at the gate were chatting idly with each other.

"Hey, have you heard? Our Lord Vinnie is going to marry his third wife." A short guard with a long gun in hand looked at the passing pedestrians and said to the tall guard beside him.

"Ah, I heard that this woman is the wife of a hunter from outside the city." The tall guard nodded and leaned against the pillar by the door, looking somewhat listless.

"Haven't you seen her? Isn't that the woman who comes to find Master every now and then?" said the short guard.

"I know, I've seen her a few times. Honestly, that woman is quite seductive." The tall guard seemed to have thought of something, his eyes gleaming with an unusual light, and he appeared more spirited than before.

"Look at you, just talking about women and your mouth is watering, are you thinking that having a wife like that would be great?" The short guard joked with him.

"Cut it out, I wouldn't dare to marry a woman like that, who knows when she'll give you a green hat." The tall guard thought of this and the sparkle in his eyes seemed to dim a bit.

"It's also true, playing around is okay, but to be a wife, not even ten lives would be enough to watch this. It's said that in order to marry Lord Vini, she's secretly planning to get rid of her current husband." The short guard said up to here, lowering his voice and shrinking his neck into his clothes.

"Hey, what's the point of thinking so much? As long as we have wine to drink at Old Man Vinnie's wedding, who cares if he drops dead?" The tall guard said with a roll of his eyes.

I stood at a distance and observed for a long time before slowly walking forward, saying to the two guards: "Excuse me, please report that Imperial Magician Aleck has arrived to visit Lord Vini."

Those two guards eyed me suspiciously, the shorter guard tightened his grip on his long spear and jerked his chin at me, saying: "A wizard? If you're a wizard, then I'm a sword god. You've got guts, daring to come here and cause trouble?"

A fireball landed at his feet, the flames "whooshing" as they burned a large hole in the wooden floorboards, and the flying sparks singed off half of the short guard's eyebrows.

Another fireball lit up in my hand: "Don't want to become charcoal, go report quickly, my patience is not that good."

The short guard rushed in through the gate, stumbling and staggering, leaving behind the tall guard whose eyes showed a fearful gaze, his two legs trembling uncontrollably, if not for the long spear in his hand, he would have probably knelt down already.

I flashed him a reassuring smile and said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you casually."

The tall guard's face turned pale as he nodded vigorously, and I thought that if I said a few more words to him, he would collapse directly. I smiled and turned my head away, no longer paying attention to him. Most people have an innate fear of magicians because they are rare, and most magicians are concentrated in the floating city. Occasionally, when a magician comes out, it is often a very powerful high-level magician, and every time they cast a spell, it is a devastating magic that destroys the sky and the earth. Therefore, ordinary people's impression of magicians only comes from rumors. If a magician appears in front of an ordinary person, it can still cause a sensation. Thinking about this, I couldn't help but feel that being a magician is indeed a very intimidating profession... This was also one of the reasons why I only wrote "mid-level archer" when I applied for the mercenary profession.

I didn't have to wait for long, before Lord Vinnie hastily opened the door to greet me. Although I was only a novice magician with an elementary title, it was enough to make this minor lord, who governed only a small city and a few villages, come running to welcome me.

Lord Vini was a plump, middle-aged man with exceptionally pale skin due to his well-maintained appearance. His slightly protruding belly told others that this lord lived a good life, eating rich and oily foods. Lord Vini put on a smiling face and said, "Magician sir, welcome to this small city. I don't know why I have the honor of receiving such a noble guest from afar?"

I bowed my head slightly, my body leaning forward, and gave Lord Vini a magician's salute: "Lord Vini, greetings. I come from the Imperial City, entrusted by a certain noble to carry out a secret mission. I require your assistance. Please find an absolutely quiet place for me to explain in detail." After finishing speaking, I discreetly showed him a noble crest, which was left behind by Teacher Anka. His family is a large and influential one in the Imperial City, with many still holding important positions in the Empire.

The lord's face changed upon seeing the emblem, and he immediately put on an even more flattering smile, bowed to me, and said: "I didn't expect Your Excellency to come here, please allow me to lead the way, I will do my best to serve you with any instructions."

I nodded slightly and gestured for Lord Vini to lead the way.

The Lord of Weini bowed his head and led me to a quiet little courtyard, he personally opened the door and let me in, after the servant brought tea, he drove everyone back.

The lord of the vineyard came to me, stood beside me with a smile all over his face and said: "Respected sir, now there is no one around, please give your orders."

I nodded in satisfaction and said, "When I was at the gate, I heard that the two guards in your mansion said that the lord is going to marry a third wife. I haven't had time to congratulate you yet."

The Lord of Weini smiled awkwardly and said: "Those damned chatterbox crows have made a fool of you, sir."

I smiled and said, "It's not their fault, I actually knew it all along... You know, I have a mission, before coming to find you, I must have some understanding of you, otherwise, finding the wrong person wouldn't be a trouble? I understand quite a lot, I even know that you sent someone to get rid of your future wife's current husband."

The lord's face changed, and he carefully looked at me, seeing that I didn't show any displeasure on my face. He then put his heart at ease and said awkwardly: "Sir, you really know everything, it's true that something like this happened, but that woman asked for it herself, and I just agreed to it."

I nodded and said, "This thing is either not done, or if it's done, it must be done cleanly. If there's any trouble, and it reaches the ears of the big people in the Imperial City, it will have a great impact on the reputation of the Lord."

The lord of Weini seemed to have heard something, and with a smile on his face, he took out five or six sheets of paper from his bosom and handed them over to me, saying: "Your Excellency is indeed all-knowing and all-powerful, you have investigated this matter so clearly. Please rest assured that dealing with a small hunter like him will not be troublesome at all. As long as Your Excellency does not speak out, it will absolutely not spread to the ears of the various lords in the Imperial Capital. This is still to ask for your forgiveness."

I saw that it was a deposit slip issued by the Imperial Bank, and although I couldn't see the specific amount clearly, judging from Lord Vinnie's practiced appearance, I estimated that he must have done this kind of bribery many times.

I pretended to be delighted, stood up and took over the deposit slips, patted his shoulder and said: "You're very lucky, I'll introduce you to my wife right away."

A blue, tapering icicle had been thrust upward through the open mouth of Lord Vini, and a pointed tip of it showed at the back of his head. The blood was frozen in an instant by the low temperature, not a drop flowed out. Lord Vini did not even have time to moan before he fell to the ground, his eyes filled with an expression of incredulity; probably until death he did not understand why he had been killed.

I helped Lord Vini up and sat him in a chair, from afar it seemed as if he was deep in thought with his head hung low.

After doing all this, I walked out of the yard, casually closed the door behind me, and strolled out of the city lord's mansion. Before leaving, I specifically told the two guards at the gate: "Tell those servants that the lord is thinking about something, don't disturb him for two days, and there's no need to send food either." The two guards nodded in terror.

I turned around the street corner and led away the horse I had bought beforehand, heading out of town.

Suddenly, a voice behind me said, "What? You think you can just kill someone and walk away like that?"
