Chapter 40: The Wave Breaker
Ever since I saw Teacher Ankala summon the Rock Giant last time, I specially reviewed this magic again. Referring to the teacher's notes, I finally managed to summon a two-meter-tall Rock Giant. Although it's not as good as the teacher's, this Rock Giant is enough to hold off that Shude for a while.
I cast a "Gust Jutsu" on myself and sprinted forward, the houses on both sides of the street quickly receding into the distance behind me. Now I only had one thought in my mind, which was to get as far away from that terrifying Shude as possible. But things often don't go in the direction people hope for.
I stopped dead in my tracks, Shude was standing right in front of me, grinning at me with his dry, toothless mouth: "Little magician, can you escape from the palm of my hand?" I didn't know how he had caught up to me, but I knew that this time things were going to be bad.
I looked at Xiu De helplessly and forced a calm smile, saying: "Ants can also bite an elephant to death. Before I die, you mustn't talk big."
"Mr. Alex, we are the princess's guards, we'll hold him off, please hurry to the port and board the ship, the princess is waiting for you." A group of black-clad men with covered faces appeared behind me.
Xiu De saw that I had helpers and sneered: "Do you think these trashy people can stop me?"
Just as I was about to respond, a short sword suddenly appeared on Xiu De's neck. The sword swiftly slashed across his neck, and a green liquid gushed out. Xiu De's body collapsed to the ground like a defeated rag doll. A green mist emerged from his clothes and dissipated into the air, leaving behind only a pile of clothing on the ground.
It was just a fake all along! Delaying time until the real thing arrives! I suddenly realized.
"Alyric, you go first, I'll hold off this undead mage. Remember, you owe me one!" Evan emerged from the shadows, flashing a smile at me.
"He's a powerful undead mage, are you sure you can handle him?" I asked.
"I'm no match for him, but I can stall him and make a run for it - that's my specialty. No more chit-chat, let's get out of here before he arrives." Evan smiled at me.
"Mr. Yalik, you go first, we'll stay behind and deal with the enemy together." One of the masked men who seemed to be a leader said.
"By the way, I should mention that these people were originally planning to ambush you on the road. I've been following them for a long time and only changed my mind and appeared when I saw that you were really being chased. Don't be deceived, whether or not you get on that little girl's boat is up to you." Ivan said calmly, looking at those guards.
The leader of the guards looked embarrassed when he heard Evan's words and quickly explained: "It was my own decision, I wanted to scare you, make you have no way out but to get on the boat. We absolutely did not intend to harm you, please forgive us."
I looked at the panicked leader of the guards and smiled, saying: "Now you've got your wish, I really have no other choice but to board the ship."
I turned to Evan and said, "So, I'm leaving this in your hands now, Evan. I owe you one, and I'll definitely return the favor someday."
Evan waved his hand indifferently: "We'll talk about that later." He also said to those guards, "And you people, being here will only get in the way. Protect Alick and board the ship together, your presence is not needed here."
I cast a "Gust Jutsu" on Aven and an earth-based "Armor Technique", then nodded at the captain of the guards and said, "You come with me, you don't understand the assassin's way of fighting, here you will only get in the way." The captain of the guards saw that I also said so, turned around and waved his hand to his subordinates, and the guards followed me as we rushed towards the harbor...
To my surprise, the "Break Wave" was a huge warship. I didn't have time to appreciate its tall hull and majestic shape before being surrounded by guards and boarding the ship. Soon, the "Break Wave" set sail, escorted by two other warships, leaving Daling Port behind. Standing at the bow, I gazed out at the twinkling lights of the harbor growing distant, gradually fading into a vague shadow. In my heart, I silently prayed: Aiven, I hope you can escape Shude's attack safely...
In the cabin of "Po Lang Hao", Su Lina and I sat opposite each other, neither of us speaking.
Sulia couldn't help but speak up first: "Mr. Alex, since you've boarded this ship, that means you've agreed to my request, doesn't it?"
"Do I have a choice? Princess, you're indeed clever to think of sending someone to scare me, leaving me with no other option but to come begging to you?" I said expressionlessly.
"Sulina made a awkward face at me: 'I didn't think of harming you, I'm also helpless now. Besides, Mr. Alik, you're really being chased by someone now, come with me to hide for a while and help me with a small favor, what's wrong with that?'"
"Hmph, so you're saying I'm asking you to take me for a ride?" I hummed twice with a sense of discontent.
"There's no need to be angry, it's Sulina asking you, please calm down, don't get too upset. Look, I'm actually quite pretty, many people want to marry me, but I won't marry them, being your wife shouldn't make you lose face." Sulina said softly to coax me.
"This blessing I can hardly bear to part with—" I rolled my eyes at the ceiling, but actually thought to myself that she was right, so I might as well just take advantage of it. Besides, this girl is still quite pretty...
Sulina covered her mouth and smiled, saying: "Now that things have come to this, why bother being so hard on yourself? Let's just treat it as a game and play along with those people. After everything is over, if you want to leave, I'll immediately send a ship to take you wherever you want to go, and I'll do my best to satisfy any of your requirements. How about that?"
Looking at her soft and pitiful appearance, my heart softened. Alas, things have come to this, so be it. I looked into her brown eyes, sighed, and said: "Alas, okay, okay, what a fate, I deserve to go through this once, call me Alex, since we're pretending to be husband and wife, pay attention to these details, and let's get our story straight, lest we slip up."
Seeing Sullina nodding happily, I said: "I'll talk about my situation first. My full name is Alik Solrens, my father was the commander of a legion in the original empire, and my mother was also a noble. Later, my father got tired of war, gave up everything, and lived in seclusion in a small village..."
