Chapter 66: Older Brother
Trillin lay motionless on the ground with his eyes tightly closed, as if he had fainted.
Frey saw the tall elf and happily ran over, the elf with a smiling face hugged Frey tightly. Seeing the two being affectionate, I knew that this must be her brother. Since my brother saved me last time, I haven't seen him yet.
Fleur took her brother's hand and said to me: "Alec, this is my brother Vincent, you haven't met him yet, have you?"
I bowed politely to Mr. Wen: "Hello, I haven't had a chance to thank you in person for your help last time."
Vincent looked at me and nodded, saying: "You're that human, nice to meet you, I'm Vincent."
Freyra pulled her brother aside, whispering something I couldn't quite catch. Meanwhile, Vincent kept glancing over at me, his eyes gradually filling with a growing anger. I felt a twinge of embarrassment in my heart, thinking that Freyra must have told her brother about us, and I had a bad feeling that he didn't approve of Freyra being with me.
As expected, I heard Vincent say loudly, "No way!" Then he walked up to me with big strides and stared at me for a long time, his gaze was extremely unfriendly.
At this moment, I have regained my calmness and quietly looked at him without saying a word.
Finally, Vincent couldn't help but speak up: "You tell me, how did you deceive my sister?"
I almost fainted when I heard this sentence, I rolled my eyes and said: "I didn't cheat your sister."
"Then she said she would marry you!"
I smiled and said, "She did it voluntarily."
"Preposterous!" Vincent shouted at me, "My sister is the most beautiful girl in the Spirit Clan, and many excellent boys of the Spirit Clan are pursuing her. How could she possibly take a liking to a human?"
I pointed to Trilling on the ground and said, "Is this the pursuer you're referring to? What's wrong with humans? Humans also have excellent people, and elves, aren't there many losers too? What does it have to do with race?"
Vincent pointed at me and was about to say something, when Freya rushed over, grabbed her brother's arm and said: "Brother, it's me who fell in love with him, it has nothing to do with him. If you want to scold someone, scold me! Why are you taking your anger out on him?"
Vincent glared at his sister and said, "Don't the elves have anyone worthy of your affection? Why must you marry a human? What's so great about this human?"
Frey was so angry that tears came out, and she said indignantly: "What's wrong with humans? At least when he was attacked by the creek, he knew to pull me down together. He didn't dodge the attack himself, but used his body to block the incoming arrows. If he had only taken care of himself at the time, he could have completely avoided the arrow, but he didn't. He would rather be shot himself."
Frey said, pointing to Trill on the ground: "Is he doing it? He only knows how to launch a sneak attack when he fails. What's wrong with humans?"
Just as Vincent was about to say something, Trillen suddenly jumped up from the ground and thrust a dagger at Freya, shouting: "It's all because of you, woman! I devoted myself to you, but this is what I got in return! I'll kill you!" Freya let out a cry of surprise and stood there frozen.
I didn't have time to think much, the magic shield couldn't be deployed in time, the only way was to use my own body to block in front of Freya. I thought helplessly: why is it always me who becomes a shield? What kind of fate is this?! I raised my hands to protect my head and cursed inwardly: for goodness' sake, just don't hit my face, let me die with some dignity.
Fortunately, perhaps because Trilling was injured beforehand, or maybe the madness made Trilling lose his accuracy, in any case, the dagger did not pierce my chest, but instead deeply entered my shoulder. My head jerked back and hit a tree behind me. Dizzy and in pain, I lifted my leg and kicked Trilling's abdomen with one foot, sending him tumbling over. Then, as if in slow motion, I saw my own blood splashing upwards in a crimson arc, before I fell softly to the ground, losing consciousness.
When I woke up, I saw Vincent and Freya standing by my side. I struggled to get up, but Vincent pressed me down and said: "Okay, don't move, Soyer Grandpa has told me what happened. Your actions just now have fully proven that you are sincere towards my sister. My sister is in your hands and I am at ease. You won't wrong her, and I won't oppose the two of you being together anymore."
Severe pain made me make a very ugly smile, and Furei was happily holding my hand beside me.
"Your injuries are nothing serious, you'll recover after a period of rest. Let Freya take care of you, I have something to attend to and will leave first."
Vincent finished speaking, patted me again, and then turned around and walked out of the room.
Frey waited until her brother left, then excitedly sat down beside me and said: "Alek, you see, my brother doesn't oppose us being together anymore."
I smiled wryly and nodded, saying: "Yeah, yeah, if Trill didn't jump up to attack me, I think the one who would definitely attack me is your brother."
Frey's face turned red with anger and she lightly hit me, saying: "Nonsense, my brother is not that fierce..."
I paused for a moment and said: "Frey, after I recover from my injury, I will leave. I'm going to an ancient ruin with Vincent. You were there that day too."
"Frey said anxiously: 'Are you going to leave me? I want to follow you.'"
I smiled and stroked her beautiful green hair, saying: "I'm not not coming back, I'll bring you with me to the floating city of Larsson when I return from the ruins, and then take you home to meet my parents."
Furei heard my words, and finally a smile appeared on her face: "Then you should come back early, I don't know how fierce your parents are? Will they accept an elf as their son's wife? Will they...?"
Then there were many, many questions. I understood the anxiety in her heart and patiently talked to her until I was exhausted and fell asleep.
When I woke up again, Freya was still sitting in front of my bed, lost in thought about her own affairs. I let out a sigh in my heart, grabbed her hand and pulled her back from her reverie.
"Frey, don't worry about it yet, we still have a long way to go. We'll need to wait until I take you to Larsen and pass the magician level assessment before we can head back. What's the point of worrying now?" I softly comforted her, telling her not to worry, and after a while, Frey finally regained her composure and took care of me with a peaceful mind.
Under Freya's care, my injuries healed quickly and I was fully recovered after two months. As my condition improved, Freya and I knew it was time to set off, and she became even more clingy to me...
