Human nobility is... both similar and different then what I had expected. As I look around, I see the expected displays of wealth, the fancy (and quite frankly stupid) clothing, and the attitudes. But compared to necrontyr nobility, it seems so... uncanny-valley-esq.
There are similarities, but it is so different from my old Lord's chambers. Everything here is so... colorful. Like birds preening and showing off to find a mate. Necrontyr... just don't do that.
But, I digress. My specific bird needs emotional support... to not kill someone. Oh, how this child has grown... Sigh. Truly beautiful.
I was getting side eyes as we wandered from most everyone, even as Anibeli made small talk and danced a touch here and there. No one talked to me, thankfully. I would have ignored them if they did, mind, but just like birds, these 'nobles' are loud and annoying.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
I can tell from looking that Ani agrees with me. The fake smile, the ever so slightly narrowed eyes... yep. She hates this. It makes my displeasure easier to bear. Shared suffering and what not.
But, after an hour, and being fashionably late to their own party, a call rings. "LORD CARRIO OF HOUSE JEKKOPS!"
Anibeli scowls instantly, but smooths her face out less then a second later. Ah, I see how this will play out.
Everyone turns to stare at the gaudy lordling strutting in. Wearing an excessive amount of gold, ribbons, and lace, he looks like a rich disaster best thrown into the sun. He is grinning, basking in the attention he has garnered.
He, after an unfortunate 21 minutes of basking, talking, and so on, he finally manages to find time to aproach us. He struts over, and his grin widens further on seeing Anibeli.
"Ah, Anibeli Berekel in the flesh. Truly, you are as beautiful as expected. More so even!"
"Lord Carrio Jekkop. Truly, I have waited far too long to see you most handsome features." Anibeli says with faux happiness.
The vein continues, him seeming genuine and happy, and Anibeli making polite talk veiled with insults. Whether or not he realized the numerous insults were aimed at him was beyond me, but one thing is for sure.
I disliked the man, and it would be a fun ride back.
