93. Its Grandpa (B2)

I needed a source of water and I needed one soon. I’ve been fighting for a while now and I’ve only managed to claim three lives. But as time passes, it is only getting harder and harder for me to stay relatively injury free whilst still being effective.

I’ve already received a few burn marks from lava simply splashing on to me from whatever attack they three my way even if I dodged or blocked it. I simply wasn’t the adept enough to dodge every single drop of lava.

But more than that, the gap between our fighting prowess was showing more and more as things stretched on.

Individually, they were all better fighters than me. They weren’t any doubts about that fact, they have been trained likely over the course of years whilst I’ve not even been fighting for 6 months yet.

It’s only though careful use of my skills, particularly crushing descent that’s giving me somewhat of a leg up as even if its only for a singular second, that gives me plenty of time to either dodge or attack depending on the situation.

Especially since they have no idea when its coming.

  But there was something else.

  Something I found quite interesting.

They only ever attacked with lava and weapons. Of course, their weapons were different, and some didn’t use them at all, but that was it. Weapons and lava.

Here I was going down a path of water, Grandpa was all about polearms, Rakeon had some sort of shadow thing going on, basically everyone was doing their own thing.

Yet here these people were, only using lava and weapons to attack.

Now obviously the lava was dangerous and they’ve already claimed plenty of lives just like that, but they all had the same build. There wasn’t any individuality apart from how they chose to use said lava.

And then there were the ones before them who couldn’t use it. No skills or abilities of any kind. Perhaps they had Traits but I didn’t know enough about their bodies to confirm or deny that. Either way, fact of the matter is…these people are apparently very restricted in how they could grow.

More importantly, in how they could fight.

Knowing that, or at least assuming that helped me to shift how I approached the battle a little bit better. All they could do was throw lava at me in different ways. I didn’t have to worry about some wondrous ability really coming out of left field.

All of this was to say I could change how aggressive I was and how I moved forward from here, but there was a problem.

  My mana wasn’t infinite.

I was able to recover both stamina and mana fairly quickly thanks to my current kit, but this was extended use of a mana heavy skill, and eventually, the rate at which I generated mana wouldn’t be able to keep up with home much I used.

Something had to give and it had to happen soon.

Forget fighting back, just staying alive would become nearly impossible in this situation without the use of my skills.

  I needed to do something.

  Quickly.

  But what?

  Woosh!!

  Boom!!

As my mind was scrambling trying to come up with a solution to my problems, one that would’ve likely ended up with me taking some sort of risk, the sound of something whizzing by where I stood could be heard before a loud bang sounded behind me.

  It was Grandpa.

A spear came flying from the right and quite literally pierced the skull of the lava person in front of me, and the force of it uprooted the body from where it stood and took it crashing into the debris nearby.

The fighting around me paused for a second, as all of us, me included, were caught off guard by what we just witnessed.

  Woosh!!

Then another spear came flying, this time it was quite literally still coated in lava which tells me Grandpa took it off a body. I took one glance in his direction to see a few bodies laying at his feet.

My gaze didn’t linger for long, and thankfully for me, Grandpa’s actions seemed to have rattled the people around me slightly as they were a little slow…just by a few moments in getting their attentions back on me.

I couldn’t allow this moment to miss me.

  Aqua Barrage.

A dozen balls of water formed around me and I shot every last one of them towards the few on the left and in that same breath, I muttered something else.

  Ocean’s Maw.

Only this time I didn’t use my spear as the conduit for the skill and simply pointed my arm to the right. Doing both at the same time took a massive chunk of out my mana, but it also managed to do plenty of damage, allowing me to break free for a moment so I could reposition.

A few more notifications about kills came in, and I used this small period to open up my sights to the rest of the area.

There was a cloud of shadows off to the left, I couldn’t see my dad and uncles right now but I could hear fighting and yelling off to the right…but Grandpa…how was this possible.

You would think me having the ability to shoot water bullets all over the place, invoking the god damn maw of a leviathan, and so many other things would stop being from surprised at the level of strength a human could display in this new reality of ours.

Shit even all the books I’ve read should’ve prepare me for this.

But Grandpa…I just watched him grab one of them by the neck and literally beamed their body at another and I could hear the sound of their bodies crunching from here.

Before the bodies even landed on the floor he moved like a damn mutant to dodge a lava coated sword swinging from behind him. Then he used his stub of a left arm and swung it at the chest of the dude with the sword and he quite literally went flying backwards.

Grandpa was on him in a flash and with an open palm he slapped him in the face and his neck moved in a direction it wasn’t meant to.

  Holy shit.

Unfortunately I couldn’t watch anymore than that, and I took off towards the sounds I could hear from the direction my dad and my uncles.

I think Rakeon would be better off by himself considering no one else could see shit in that little shadow cloud thing of his, and if worst came to worst, I’m pretty sure Grandpa would make sure he was alright.

And Grandpa…well nothing else needed to be said there.

Now it appeared dad and the others ended up running all way back to compound, while I was a bit worried about them, I knew most of the lava people were concentrated in front of the Dungeon, as Grandpa was being something of a menace right now.

Anyway, I reached them, and what I found was essentially a DND party of nothing but melee fighters covering each other’s back as about double their number had converged upon them.

They were losing but managing to hold on through communication, grit, and pure fucking heart.

Every single one of them was covered in wounds whether it be cuts or burn marks.

  But I’m here now.
