Prouloge

  Prolouge:

The void was empty, lifeless even, like it hadn’t heard the hum of a living creature in decades. They weren’t lying when they said they were understaffed. But I couldn’t dwell on that — there was a job to do, people to save.

My name is Jack Herron, and I’m not your average teenager. Just two months ago, I qualified for the most dangerous job imaginable: a Demeonsional Guardian.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The soft hum of the engine tore through the empty void, like a bat’s screech in a cave. A storm of emotions surged inside me — fear, hope, determination — and yet one question lingered. I shifted my sleeve, revealing a tiny dot on my arm. It hadn’t been there this morning, and yet… here it was, prickling faintly against my skin.

My thoughts were interrupted by my GPS: “You will arrive at your first job in five minutes.” My stomach churned. This was finally happening… just like Dad said it would. Dad… if only you were here to see this.

I never knew exactly how he died — shot down by some unregistered aircraft, a secret even THEY didn’t know.

Ah, enough of that. I was here, and it was time to meet Cassius Bright, the Divine Blade.
