Volume 4 - Chapter 47: Arthur VS Lorb

Arthur and Grimly stood outside Lorb's door, the skies were overcast making the already dark alley even less inviting.

Arthur reached for the handle of the door and twisted it, "One moment..." said the voice of an old woman as she slowly shuffled towards the door and creaked the door open just the slightest bit.

"Yes?" asked an old lady with white hair, she was peering through the crack in the slightly open door.

Arthur kicked the door open sending the woman flying backwards as he entered Lorb's isekai room.

With a flash of light, Lorb removed his old woman disguise and stood up.

"Hey, what if I really was an old woman?!" Lorb demanded, he pointed at Arthur with his index finger and as if his centre of mass became anchored to some invisible point in space, Lorb gestured for Arthur to come closer with his middle and index fingers.

"What the?!" Arthur tried to move but nothing happened.

"Arthur!" Grimly called out as Lorb glanced in his direction, the took a step towards the door, his guitar drawn.

"Stay back!" Arthur called out as Lorb gestured for the front door to slam shut.

The doors faded into the black walls leaving them in a solid-black rectangular cell, it with unseen lights.

"Now then, I believe you have some explaining to do..." Lorb began.

Before he could continue he felt an invisible crack forming as the sound of air snapping filled the room.

"Nice try," Lorb laughed snapping his fingers as all magic was removed from within the room, this also meant Arthur fell to the ground with a thud, no longer held in the air by Lorb's magic.

Arthur looked at his staff and grinned, "Heh, I came prepared for this course of action!" he laughed as he pulled his staff back.

"ARTHUR'S ULTIMATE TECHNIQUE!" he exclaimed as Lorb's eye's widened in preparation for the attack.

Arthur just tossed the staff over to Lorb, it bonked him on the head giving his a bruise.

"Ow! What the hell!" Lorb demanded rubbing the sore spot on his head.

He looked at his hand, "Bro, you totally cut my skin, not cool!" he said.

"Stop acting like an idiot, Lorb! You know as well as I do that you can heal that in an instant!" Arthur hissed.

"And yet you came here... nice..." Lorb remarked sarcastically.

"But to heal yourself you have to activate the magic in the room!" Arthur laughed.

"I could activate magic for just a split second, that's enough for me!" Lorb exclaimed.

"What about you?" he asked smugly.

"Why don't you find out?" Arthur asked,

"I hope he doesn't catch onto my bluff... I can't use my crack-magic without the staff!"

Suddenly Arthur broke into a sprint, running up to Lorb with fists ready to fight.

"You're actually going to try and punch me?" Lorb asked holding back laughter as he snapped his fingers and returned magic to the room for just long enough to move out of the way of the punch.

"Tough, looks like today isn't your lucky day!" Lorb laughed as he was met with a punch to the gut which barely felt like anything.

"AND WHO'S FAULT IS THAT?!" Arthur demanded planting a fist to Lorb's gut once more, Lorb didn't bother to evade anymore.

"What do you mean?" he asked, he returned magic to the room once more and used that second to look at Arthur's stats with admin-sight.

His eyes widened as he let out an uncontrollable laugh, he could see that Arthur was born in the future, but he could see more than just that.

"It really isn't your lucky day!" Lorb exclaimed.

Arthur rushed over for his staff only to be teleported away by Lorb.

"Let me guess, you can't actually use that magic without you precious staff?" he asked, still laughing.

Arthur gritted his teeth and he once more made an attempt for the staff before being flung back against one of the solid black walls with Lorb's magic.

Arthur gasped for air since it was all knocked out of his lungs by the impact of him hitting the wall.

"It's your fault my life was living hell!" he said in a raspy voice.

"Is it? Care to elaborate?" asked Lorb.

Arthur didn't reply, he wasn't sure how to reply, somehow he knew Lorb was responsible.

He just got to his feet and made a mad dash for him again with his fists drawn.

Lorb teleported to the side and tripped Arthur up.

"I'll tell you why your life is the way it is," Lorb began as a smug smile appeared on his face.

"Because you were a terrible person!" he said smiling.

Arthur was dumbfounded, "What did he just say to me?!" he thought.

"You heard me right, somewhere this very moment, a different you is walking around and tormenting people," Lorb replied.

"This world can only hold ten-thousand souls, plus a few strays from hell," he explained.

"When you're born, your soul is recycled from another person who perma-died," Lorb explained.

  "I know!" Arthur exclaimed.

"The study of souls is well documented where I'm from!" Arthur exclaimed running at Lorb once more, this time when Lorb side stepped Arthur, he turned to punch him again only to be launched back by Lorb's spell again.

He gasped as blood began flowing from his mouth, just as Arthur felt his consciousness leave him he gritted his feet and got back to his feet, he felt a sharp pain in his side, one of his ribs must have been broken.

"I'm sure you've been taught that your soul is wiped clean before moving on, right?" asked Lorb.

Arthur didn't reply, he was just looking for a chance to grab his staff.

"Well, it isn't." Lorb finally said.

"Your karma stat remains unchanged," he said pointing at Arthur.

"And your Karam in negative two-hundred and eighty-three!" his expression grew bitter.

"I can't image what you had to do to achieve those numbers... but I can assure you, what you're experiencing is well deserved," Lorb said bluntly.

  "THAT'S BULLSHI!" Arthur exclaimed.

He spat out a gulp of blood before looking up to Lorb, "What right do you have to punish me for the actions of a different person?!" Arthur demanded before charging at Lorb once more.

  Lorb rolled his eyes.

"As fun as this is... I really don't want you to keep bleeding all over my room..." he sighed.

Lorb used his magic to toss Arthur against the wall one last time as he walked over and picked up Arthur's staff.

"Still, I expected you to be less useless... what class are you?" Lorb chuckled as he inspected the staff.

His eyes widened as he noticed the few dozen explosion seals on the staff.

Before he could react both he and the seals were blown to shreds, the broken staff cracked a hole in the universe swallowing the chunks of Lorb that remain before closing.

Suddenly the black walls disappeared revealing Lorb's hideout as nothing but a small home in need of some cleaning.

Arthur stumbled towards the door and opened it falling face-first to the ground before being picked up by Grimly.

  "Arthur!" he exclaimed.

"What the hell happened in there?!"

"Finally... the tyrant is dead..." Arthur said, though his heart felt no lighter.

As if to mourn the death of Lorb the entire world became enveloped in heavy rain, from the jGuardian base to Ajudan's deserts and Steve's temple, to the mountains of Kerudown.

Arthur went over and collected a few pieces of the staff and opened up a shaky, unstable crack in space to the underwater palace.

On that day, Arthur killed god.
