Current Mood: Darth Rove is finally resigning from his position as political consultant to the Shrub. The news that the chief architect of the greatest hive of scum and villainy to invade the White House since Richard Nixon is retiring should fill me with a sense of patriotic joy; perhaps his conscience got the better of him (unlikely); or, perhaps, the Democrats were getting a little too close in their investigations (better to resign than face a subpoena? More likely). Unfortunately, I think that the most likely reason is that with the 2008 elections a mere fourteen months away, it’s time for the Rove Career Destroying Machine to start moving into high gear. He needs to start spreading rumors about the Democratic candidates, spewing his usual brand of lies and deceit, discrediting any threat to the Bush legacy and whoever he chooses to be the next President. I take comfort in the fact that Rove isn’t infallible, that even he wasn’t able to predict the level of public disillusion in the Republican Congress that led to the Democrat takeover last November. But he’s a dangerous man, with the capacity to do far more harm than good. ![]() The Rovester by Richard Crawford, unless otherwise expressly stated, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
