Crazy Hot

Posted 4 years, 1 month ago., on Saturday, June 24th, 2006, at 8:37 am

“Crazy hot.” That’s what R., the girl at the bakery, said to me this morning as I picked up our morning coffee and scones. “It’s already crazy hot out.”

“Yeah,” I replied. “It’s supposed to get up to about 110 degrees today.”

She made a face. R. comes from Mexico, and she says she really likes hot weather, which is one of the reasons she’s happy her family moved here to the Central Valley. “Except it’s really crazy hot now, and I don’t like it when it’s like this. Bleah.” She actually said “Bleah.”

Of course, the worst part of crazy hot around here is the inversion factor. High temperature, high pressure, inversion effect over the valley. I used to know the technicalities of all that; basically, though, what it boils down to is an air quality index of about 110, which translates to, “Don’t even think about going outside you asthmatic bastard!”

So, it’s crazy hot out here today.

And actually, I’m exaggerating. It’s not going to get up to 110 today. It’s only supposed to get to 108.
